The Hickory Young Professionals (HYP), a leadership development organization that engages young professionals in the community, would like your participation in our Empower Hour with HYP event!

We are reaching out to let you know we are nearing our capacity for CEOs, VPs and Executives. We are now looking to confirm our last remaining industry leaders who will interact with our young professionals. Please understand we cannot guarantee any CEO, Vice President or Executive past the past the 50 mark as event spaces are limited. At this event, 50 CEOs, Senior Vice-Presidents and other businesses leaders in the community will come together to mentor our young professionals. The goal of the meeting is to provide young professionals with 1-1 opportunities to articulate their pitch as they hope to become leaders in their respective companies or in the community.

The logistics of the Empower Hour will look very similar to that of a speed-dating event. Here are the specifics:

  1. The event will be Wednesday, September 20th from 11:30 am to 1:00pm. We are still working on securing the final location of the event within Hickory. We will send out the location details and all other remaining details by Wednesday, September 13th.
  2. Each Business leader will meet with a young professional for 5 minutes and then rotate
  3. Business leaders will meet with a total of 5-6 young professionals
  4. Each young professionals will have a 90 second pitch about themselves and what they do and why they want to be promoted within their organization or receive a spot on a community board or council. Over the course of the interactions, each young professional will better articulate their pitch to a different audience.
  5. Business leaders will provide feedback on professionalism and the initial impression that the young professional provides.
  6. Remaining time can be used for explaining your own career path and executive-level responsibilities (managing a board, employees, budgets, etc.)
  7. For the last 15 minutes of the event, there will be refreshments, mingling time and closing remarks.
  8. Hors d'oeuvre will be included.

We are hoping to teach the importance of leadership development, professionalism and personal communication from executives to HYP members. We want our members to have confidence when speaking to senior-level executives and gain the professionalism to make an impact during a first-impression. We request that you participate to provide critically important feedback to one young professional at a time.

This one-on-one interaction will also provide our young professionals with a great networking opportunity. Our priority is to keep and retain young talent in our area, and need the efforts of the entire community to make it happen. So we hope you can take time to participate in the event.
