With the creation of the new Business Development and Planning Division, the City of Hickory has brought John Marshall, AICP on board as the new Transportation Planning Manager.
"The City of Hickory has over a quarter of a billion dollars of transportation projects in the pipeline over the next few years. Hickory is at the precipice of incredible growth and we want the best minds and talents working with us as we invest in and build out the City's utility, infrastructure, and transportation assets," said City Manager Warren Wood.
As the Transportation Planning Manager, Marshall will conduct transportation planning studies, develop comprehensive transportation plans, and prepare federal and state grants to receive funding for transportation projects. He will work closely with Office of Business Development staff, GIS personnel, and a variety of private, public, and non-profit economic development partners to gather and analyze data and provide recommendations for transportation projects.
Before joining the City of Hickory Business Development and Planning Division, Marshall worked for the Western Piedmont Council of Governments for 27 years, where he most recently served as the Director of Planning, Transportation, and Environmental Programs. He is a Certified Planner (AICP) through the American Planning Association, holding a Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning from East Carolina University, and a Master of Science in Transportation Studies from UNC Charlotte.
"We are very excited to have John join our team at the City of Hickory. His wealth of experience will be a tremendous asset as we review these projects and the economic opportunities they will provide," added Interim Assistant City Manager Rick Beasley.
