The City of Hickory has been awarded a $50,000 Urgent Repair Grant from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency to assist qualifying low-income homeowners in need of urgent housing repairs.
"Hickory faces the duel challenge of a high inventory of existing housing and soaring costs of new construction. Grants like these from the NC Housing Finance Agency for repairs will help us bridge that divide and improve our community," said State Senator Andy Wells.
The grant will fund the City's Urgent Repair Program, which provides forgivable loans to homeowners of up to $8,000 to households with special needs whose income does not exceed 50 percent of the statewide median income. These funds may be used for urgent repairs or accessibility improvements that are required to avert the displacement of the homeowner.
