Hickory Public Library Endowment Kicks Off its Annual Fund Drive

The Library Advisory Board will kick off its annual campaign to raise funds for the Hickory Public Library Endowment on March 15 at 6 p.m. at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library. The public is invited to attend the event to learn more about the Endowment and plans for funds throughout the coming year.

The Hickory Public Library has served the community for over a century, and now offers two modern facilities with staffs that provide extensive programs and services. In 2017, patrons of all ages logged an impressive 323,925 library visits, checked out more than 383,000 items, and were offered over 1,000 educational, informational and entertaining programs. The Library is a vital community resource for thousands - adults seeking career assistance, children discovering the joy of reading, students doing research, senior citizens exploring the Internet, or groups gathered to discuss literature or enjoy a concert.

Established in 1998, the Hickory Public Library Endowment funds needs and services that extend beyond the funding provided by the City of Hickory, Catawba County, and the State Library of North Carolina. Additional gift support ensures ongoing excellence, innovation, and flexibility in library service.

Managed by Catawba Valley Community Foundation, the Hickory Public Library Endowment is composed of five separate funds:

  1. Humanities Programming Fund
  2. Ridgeview Branch Humanities Programming Fund
  3. Ralph W. Hutton Family Children's Fund
  4. Patrick Beaver General Operations Fund
  5. Hickory Public Library Collections/ Electronic Resources Fund

Existing funds are open to receive contributions in any amount. Contributions are welcome from corporations, organizations, and individuals. Gifts may be given in memory or honor of a person or group. Naming opportunities are available for future component funds, ranging from $10,000 to $50,000. In addition to cash gifts, the Library accepts gifts of securities, real estate, life insurance, and trusts. An attorney can assist those interested in including the Library in their estate planning.

The goal of the 2018 Endowment Fund Drive is to raise $20,000. In the coming year, Hickory Public Library will use endowment funds to expand opportunities for hands-on learning through technology for everyone in our community.

Plans for 2018 Endowment Funds include:

  1. 3D Printer
  2. Digital creation workstations using both Mac and PC platforms
  3. Software packages to create, edit, and produce projects
  4. Digital Cameras and Photo Backdrops
  5. Silhouette Cameo Electronic Cutting Tool
  6. Robotics and Circuitry Kits
  7. Sewing Stations

The annual Fund Drive for the Hickory Library Endowment will conclude during National Library Week, April 8-14.
