On October 27, Union Square is invaded by power rangers and fairy princesses and ghosts and goblins for the annual HDDA Downtown Hickory Candy Crawl.

Costumed children ages 12 and younger are invited to enjoy safe trick-or-treating in Downtown Hickory. The downtown business owners will host a safe trick-or-treating experience from 4:00pm until 5:00pm on Union Square.

Pumpkin decorating with Hickory Museum of Art will happen for the first 400 kids.

The Candy Crawl Costume Contest happens at 5:15pm on the stage under the Sails. Registration for the contest happens between 3:45pm and 4:45pm at the HDDA booth. Three categories of costumes will be judged by the Hickory Community Theatre Guild. The categories are: Ages 0-6, Ages 7-12, and Families. Winners in each category will receive tickets for a family of four to see the Hickory Community Theatre's production of Elf, Jr. WHKY's Hal Row will emcee the contest.
